Lower processing rates or lower fixed per transaction
fees?
We hear a lot of merchants complaining about the fact
that they are being charged an extra $0.25 or $0.35 for
every transaction they process. Some Merchant Services
Providers offer you account with no fixed transaction fees
at all. The truth is that it costs your MSP about $0.10 to
process that transaction and they have to pay to Visa, the
processor or the card issuing bank. So if they are offering
you a no per transaction fee structure, than they are
probably either building enough profit into the discount
rates or they are eager to earn your business and are
willing to "eat" those costs. If you had to choose between
MSP A who offers lower discount rates but higher
per-transaction fees, or MSP B who offers slightly higher
discount rates but with no per-transaction fees, who would
you choose? It would all depend on your monthly volume and
